CHARITY CYCLE: DUBLIN TO GALWAY - AND THEY'RE OFF
Well, we got through Day 1!
We cycled from our home in Dublin to Maynooth in county Kildare (31 kilometers, for anyone counting).
We got off to a bad start - as we pulled out of our driveway the tape around my handlebars started to unravel.
I've had my trusty aluminium steed for 8 years. It's taken me around Lake Tahoe, it's carted my husband from Malin Head to Mizen Head, it's been on countless jaunts, and now, with a whopper lined up, it decides to peel apart!
We couldn't find a sniff of duct tape in the house so we used stickers (stickers! ffs), magic tape (that doesn't even keep wrapping paper together) and last but not least, a piece of string. Blue Peter would have been proud, it held together nicely.
Another surprise was the strong gusts of wind, there were moments when I felt on the verge of being swept up into a tornado. Me and my dog Toto too.
We made our way through city streets and leafy parks until we hit some motorways, not my favourite dance but I was nicely shocked at how many bike lanes existed that were in half decent shape. Ireland, you're showing your green 🙌
When we made it to Kildare we slipped off the road into a lovely park and swanned past some teenagers fishing, we were on vacation at last.
When we finally parked up, we hit the pool for a splash and attacked some (vegan) burgers (Dom wants it made clear he ate steak).
We are very proud of RóisÃn for taking it all in her stride 🙌
Tomorrow we will hit the Greenway heading from Maynooth to Moyvalley.
